    Charges for contact lens exams

    Hello all,
I am the optical manager at a 4 MD practice. They have done as little as possible with contacts lenses in the past and the charges reflect that. We recently added an OD to our staff (yay!) and are looking to update the fees.
What is charged at your place of business?
New wearer (spherical, toric, monovision, or multifocal)
New pt, previous wearer (same criteria)
    Returning patients at yearly visits

    Thank you!

Since areas of the country, state and even the same city vary in fees due to varying factors ( rent, wages,, etc) , I think your best bet is to call around to places ( 5 or 6) near your practice and use that as a benchmark for your pricing.

We are an ophthalmology practice and we charge $45 for routine contact lens analysis (ie: patient is already wearing CTL and has no changes), $119 for new fit and training for spherical lenses (includes return visits), $168 for toric lens fitting (includes return visits). We charge more than the basic $45 if there is some sort of change in status ie: patient wants monovision or there is a change in Rx (these may cost anywhere between $55 and 75)

Thank you! We have called around to about 10 places in the area and prices have been all over the place. It is hard because we are calling around as patients and it is difficult to gather a whole picture of the pricing structure.

Do you charge any additional fees at the patients yearly exam?

We recently upped our CL eval (Current happy wearer) to $60 because many plans will either pay that price or have it listed as the copay for cl patients... so why leave money on the table?

    For new fits
    $95 sph
    $125 Toric
    $145 mono/multi
    $250 specialty (Cones, Synergeyes, etc)

Starting with new building there will be a contact lens agreement as well spelling out the time limit for free additional follow ups, the reason for the evaluation fees every year, and the benefits of getting your cls through us..
