More times than I can remember, I have:
    1) Used trial aspheric bifocal lenses and the patient saw fine, when the "real" lenses came in the patient could not see well.
    2) Dispensed a pair of Aspherical Bifocals rigid or soft, the patient saw fine, sometimes 20/15 J-1. The patient comes in for a follow-up two weeks later and he sees 20/40 J-3 give or take a little.

I have discussed this with various manufactures and this does not seem to be a personal problem I have but no one has an explanation. Your thoughts?

Please don't tell me not to have the patient back for follow-ups and then neither I or they will know.

    Unhappy

    Dear Jilly:

This was not a complaint about a specific case but about Aspheric bifocal lenses in general. Even the manufacturers say "everyone has this problem or they don't fit this type lens or they don't recognize the problem."

And yes I see this very often in the absence of any pathology or centration problem. I have been in this business since 1958 so I would probably see most problems.
