Patriots WIN...Had it all the way!!!

Carroll's Offensive coordinators decide to pass the ball for a pick- after a NY Giants Tyree type catch gives them a potential chip shot tying field goal and with one of (if not ) the best running back in the NFL has a chance to try to punch it in on third(!) down...WOW

Now Seattle fans know why Kraft fired him and hired Belichick.

    Seriously--- what a GREAT game.

Brady got a text from Gisele just before the end of the 3rd quarter telling him if he lost there would be no soup for him for 6 months. Now that's motivation!

A field goal wouldn't have tied it. They needed a touchdown to win.

Comedy of errors by the Seahawks, everything from Doug Baldwin getting the unsportsmanlike conduct penalty for simulating pooping on the football after he scored the touchdown (his only catch by the way) to Seattle refusing to adjust their defense despite Brady and the Patriots picking them apart by dumping it off short all game long to Seattle attempting to throw it from the 1 yard line with a play the Patriots had scouted and prepared for to Seattle jumping offsides after the INT when Brady couldn't take a knee without giving up a safety and finally getting ejected from the game with 20 seconds left because you decided to act like a classless punk and throw a punch.

We were binge watching Trailer Park Boys, but we did pop in at the end of the Super Bowl, just in time to see the best (and only) Super Bowl brawl. TPB's Ricky and Julian have no class at all, but are still waaaay classier than Irvin and Gronkowski.

Actually when I read his thinking it did kinda make sense. The coaches had to play a game of chicken with the clock and their timeout situation. Seattle had one remaining Patriots had 2. So with it being third down Carroll wanted as to give the ball back with as little clock for Brady as possible and still preserve his timeout so they would have 2 shots at a touchdown and almost nothing left on the clock so a running play would have forced a timeout and still no guarantee of a touchdown. (Someone give me a dope slap for originally posting a field goal to win- I knew better!)

There have been 109 slant pass attempts this year from the 1 yard line and not one was intercepted. A very safe play from a coaches perspective. So he calls a legal pick play that gets ruined by Browner jamming the Hawks at the line of scrimmage allowing Butler to jump the route.

The Seattle off-sides was really really dumb as any chance at a fumble disappeared.

A thanks to the Boston Globes Ben Volin(?) for getting that story.

I've yet to read/hear any (supposed) expert that thinks it wasn't the worst call in SB history. Heck even Seattle's home news paper had my exact words on the front page Monday.

Carroll's words that I heard said he ran the pass because he didn't have the "right" personnel on the field for that (running) play. They had ran (and passed) all year with mis-matches on the line. Still made no sense. Brady's good, but less than 20 sec. to go 80 yrds...I'd take that bet.

Awful call, agonizing to watch. I was yelling "NonononoNONONO WHAT ARE YOU DOING???!!" before Wilson even threw the pass. Painful.

I could have made better decisions for half his salary!!

Bill Belichick...Best Coach of All Time>>>

OK now I'm wrong on the down...(I was excited!!!)

Anyway here's another Globe writer breaking down the coaches decision:

It was second down so with a timeout left anything but a turnover gave them 2 shots at the end-zone. An incomplete pass stops the clock so that leaves 3rd down with all play options open and 2 chances to win the game.

    Now the stats-
Think it was a sure thing? Ok- probably-- but---

During the season, of Lynch's 281 carries this season 20 resulted in lost yardage while 2 more were fumbled! So bad things happened 7.8% of the time.
Over 3 years with Wilson he's fumbled 20 times and had 77 non fumbling negative yards. That's 10.7% of his runs. To his credit he gained at least a yard on 91.7% of the time in this game.

So again anything but a turnover gave Seattle a very high percentage chance of winning the game with almost no time left.

There are more stats in today's Boston Globe article by Alex Speier but that was some of what a coaching staff thinks and knows that we fans who are able to armchair coach the game in hindsight don't.

Now if Belichick had called timeout to leave Brady (and Seattle) with more clock???
