There are rules. Knowing those are easy. There are exceptions to the rules. Knowing those are easy. Knowing when to use them is slightly less easy. There are exceptions to the exceptions. Knowing those is a little more tricky, and know when to use those is even more so. Our industry is FULL of all of the above.
I'm no glass fanboi, but I suspect that as an ophthalmic lens material, glass will be around for awhile, although at it's present low level of market penetration.
I won't wear it because of the weight in my Rx. However, I fit a Thin & Lite photochromic into a titanium frame the other day that put a smile on my face when I took it out of the package and held it in my hands. My client was equally smiley.
IMO, FDA's drop ball test/impact resistant requirements should be optional for adult eyeglasses.
