Are Taxi drivers more organized than ECPs ? UBER vs CC

If you GOOGLE "uber" on Wikipedia you can read a history of the worlds reaction to the UBER taxi app launched in 53 countries.

Why are taxi drivers and their regulatory agencies more outraged and responsive to the Internet challenge than ECP s are ?

Are taxi drivers lacking apathy ? Or are they smarter than ECP s ? Has their education taught them something ECP s don't know ? Is ignorance bliss, do they not understand you can't stop the Internet ? Should ECPs set them straight ?

Most taxi medallions are issued by and regulated by a local entity. When the jitney business first started out in the rough and tumble days before the turn of the century the teamsters banded together to form unions to regulate and protect themselves from competition. These unions, particularly in large cities, came under the control of the newly arriving immigrant groups, each in their own turn, the Irish, the Italians and whoever recently immigrated to your area. In that the unions and regulators were all local and not spread about the State or Federal government it was easy for the protective associations (unions) to control their local regulators and thus had the Mayor and Council members in their pockets. If you do some research you will also find this is true of municipal towing contracts and garbage collection. Hence, we still see hackney licenses awarded under the blessing of these municipal officials.

Today, a hackney license cost tens of thousands of dollars (if one is available) and usually some “grease” to the Hackney Board. However, a taxi medallion is, in effect, a license to print money. It is small wonder that Uber is seen as a threat to the existing status quo.

Simply put, it's nothing more than the black market emerging from the basements now operating at street level, on the web and out in the open.

The service in which they are offering isn't illegal, it's how they're offering it and bypassing regulatory bodies that makes it seem illegal. I call it more non-compliance rather than illegal. They choose not to comply - they're the new big bad boys on the block.

What's really rather amazing to me is the company has no real assets and rides the coat tails of everyday people to provide their services through an app, yet the company is worth $18 Billion?? It seeems people have more money than brains.

The end is near; Noah please go and get the ark ready and grab a copy of the Watchtower.

Did you not all say that about Coastal a year ago and more ?

These days nobody talks about it no more even if the owning corporation can now sell their on-line goods also in the heavy controlled Province of Quebec (see judgement), where the government partially financed another upcoming on-line optical on top of it..
