    Rivets and wire cores

I've been looking for stainless steel rivets and wire temple cores and have been finding it difficult to locate a source which will get them to me within a week. Does anyone know of a good domestic source. I'm most interested in something like this: http://www.tailiglassesparts.com/riv...%20TSV-08.html. That source will take a long time to come in, and I don't want to be waiting for weeks.

Stainless steel rivets are the worst kind of rivets to be used on eyeglass frames. You have actually a hard time to rivet them as they are some of the hardest materials, and if you can, they are as hard to remove without breaking the frame.

Thanks, Chris. I was asking about stainless because my hinges are stainless. What's the best material?

Chris is right on . . . Stainless steel sucks when used as rivets or screws. Back in the good old days we used brass alloys. They were easily peened over for retention and they were super easy to drill out without damaging the hinge. The adoption of stainless steel years ago was a marketing ploy . . . hey, these screws won't discolor or stain! The great unwashed bought this hook, line and sinker.

check www.hkopticalfair.com and link to optical accessories on the lower right hand side. Tons of vendors from China supply rivets, hinges and temple cores.
