ait weco e.3 vs coburn exxpert 8000

I have the opportunity to select the edger for our new finish lab. I like both of these. The Coburn will have the auto blocker and autolensometer, along with the drill. I am looking for some honest reviews/feedback on each. Of course each rep advises theirs is better, lol. We are dealing with some space concerns, and both of these will work well in the area. Thanks!!

We've had our E.3 for a couple years now. It's a great bang for the buck! It does what our small office needs. Looked at the Coburn at Expo and was drooling over a wicked cool jet black one! But couldn't justify the cost with a 2 y/o E.3 paid for and working properly.
The E.3 has had some rocky spots but after help from AIT and making sure we new proper procedures ... do's/Don'ts ... it has performed as expected.
Feel free to ask any other questions you might have.

The Weco edgers through AIT Industries are the same as those sold by Briot. The E.3=Briot Emotion. The Emotion is the newer version of the Briot Accura.

I own two Briot edgers, but they are from the Alta line. They are well-built machines. The Emotion/E.3 is made more cheaply, and I don't think it will hold up as well. I think the Alta/E.5 edger is the one to compare to the Coburn 8000.

I got the impression the 8000 gives one a lot for the money and has a good warranty, but it didn't seem as solidly built as the Alta/E.5 edgers.

Santinelli deserves to be on your radar. The Lex system with drill is a fantastic unit

8000 Exxpert system is a really nice system and at a great price. Auto blocker/tracer is very accurate, even on .25 cylinder lenses. Edger can do most step bevels for wrap frames, and has a milling blade to prevent any slippage on expensive arc lenses. Drill is very accurate and competes with Santinelli Lex system drill. Highly recommend, and I'm sure it will be very competitively priced at the Vision Expo.
