Progressive markings enhanced by a black light.

Seems to me a few years back (late 80's) there was making a progressive lens that not only was it engraved but should you not be able to find the engraving it also had a way for you to find the markings with a black light.

Was that for real or just something I was dreaming about? Are there any manufacturers out there today doing such?

That's news, I've never even heard rumors of it.

I seem to recall something similar early to mid 90's as well. Can't remember the manufacturer though. There was also a "fog" activated one as well I think, that you would breathe on the lens, and the etchings would jump out...

THAT'S where that trick comes from! I learned that back at lenscrafters for the non-ar lenses.

Yes, there were markings on some lenses that were visible when exposed to a blacklight, I can't recall which lens it was.
It may have been a Silor no line.

The Breath mark was for Crizal back in the 90's. Essilor was also making Nikon lenses with the breath mark.

    Dead giveaway.

It fell out of favor as we baby boomers started showing up in disco's in VIP's and all the younger women new we were older.

The Sola VIP/XL lenses along with the Silor Super No Line had UV markings underneath the paint markings. You could also hold them over the tint tank and the markings would show up when the lens fogged.
