    Name that Frame!

Distinctive frame--rings a bell but I'm not remembering it. Anyone recognize this one?

looks like an Oakley logo on the temple shot of that frame... but clearly not an Oakley product. Maybe something from abb?

Here's my .02 cents Safilo Elasta Team or Fratelli Lozza

Safilo was exactly the bell I heard ringing. I'll reach out to my rep to see if he can place it.

Those funky, lower-case gammas aren't as shiny as the pic makes them look. Definitely in 'antique bronze' territory.

Beer goes to the guess of most specificity without getting it wrong. So as of this post:

If it's an Elasta or Fratelli, Paul gets a frosty Shinerbock (or drink of his choice) on 6th St. If it's a different Safilo, drstewart so far has the best position by the net. If it's not Safilo at all, CN has the gutterball covered with "not Oakley."

Still time to get your best guess in there, guys and gals!

It is hard to tell. Do you have another picture of it with the closer and clearer view of the temple side of the frame?

Already sent it to lab, but will retake a side shot when it comes back.

I'm hoping to track down a line on a replacement just in case the patient needs it. He gets a lot of mileage out of his lenses and just signed these old frames up for another tour of duty.

(Mike Aurelius will be happy to know he's an avid glass enthusiast.)

    Game Two!

Maybe this is an easier one! Silhouette---who can name the model?

(Interesting story on this one: frames were broken as unfortunate surgical techs were storing a patient's belongings. I've been asked to explore replacement options.)

Tough to tell from the pic if it's using the standard 1.4 mm compression or the 2.0 mm ones. If the 1.4 it looks like an SPX Art.

Yeah, sorry for the lack of scale. Pictures were provided by non-optical staff. Both the SPX Art and the 7799 look boxier than lenses I see here? (Of course with silhouettes that may be perfectly interchangeable with these lenses, too.)

    Thanks for the help, everyone.

Lenses don't tell you much with a silhouette. All lenses are interchangeable with the different lines and a lot of opticals even make thier own patterns.

Hard to tell from the pic. The 7799 is the current version of that Silhouette hingeless style. It is flat across the front of the temple with a distinct angle where the bend occurs. This may be the older version, the 7395, which was more of a sweeping curve.

gmc, I think you're guess is going to be hard to beat! The specs in question are at least ten years old. I surmise it's not a problem, but just to ask: the lenses should be able to be reinstalled in contemporary 7799s?

Virtually all Silh's use the same drill diameter/displacement except SPX drills and some of the funky vertical drill frames they've made. You could put the lenses in a number of different lines. Just make sure you use the same bridge size to keep OC's where they're supposed to be.

    Naturally--thanks partner.

If I get a hold of the specs myself, I'll verify Gary's win. Extra round of beer for everyone--I appreciate the assist! Let me know the next time y'all are in Austin!

The lenses should work with the 7799. The 7799 is a much better design than the 7395. The stress point on the hingeless temple is much more stable. Nowhere near the breakage level we would see with the 7395.

I'll have come to Austin to take you up on that beer. I've been to San Antonio several times for meetings, but have never made the short drive to Austin.

The front looks like a Safilo, but the spring mechanism housing doesn't look like one Safilo uses.
