How do I attach this pad to this chuck...hmm

Like the title says. . I have an older topcon edger I use just for side work.. friends, family and all of that... Most of the edgers I use at work the clamp has the chuck holder on one side and a rubberized holder for the back of the lens on the other. .. This edger has a weird pieced together set up.. looks like 3 pieces of cork all glued together and some how stuck to the pivoting head of the clamp. .. It fell off and I have no idea how to replace. . Lol... Actually ruined a perfectly good lens in the process. ... I would actually like to just replace the whole piece with something a little more modern to be honest. ..

The layers might be cork.....or the remnants of a stock fibre ring. A decent glue is contact cement, easily removed and is relatively waterproof when dry. Simply clamp and let dry overnight.

Ok so the pics are up. That was a struggle. I'm better with mechanical. Any way. I can reattach the material the half eye had, Maybe stock fiber ring. Going to try that for now. Could actually use a new one if they can still be ordered anywhere. My second question is about just replacing the entire lens holder. I know how hard the topcon parts are to find. Been looking for a semi rimless lens holder for the tracer for about 2 years. I think the practice that owned it before me already did a retrofit. Originally the alx1 came with suction cups, according to the manual anyway. Is there a specific company anyone would recommend I could call with the measurements of the lens holder i'd like to replace and try to find a workable alternative. Or better to just try to live with the set up I have now. I love this old edger. It's fast, it's accurate and it does everything I need to do. (except nylor, dang lens holder). Some people like building model airplanes and fishing, I like making glasses... Go figure. Thanks for all of the advise and help....

I find the pic is a little small, ottknot. Can you upload a larger size of pic?

what has happened is the chuck has gotten ruined by hitting the wheels. It appears to been ground down and part of the pad holder is gone. Or it may just be the angle of photo.

Grrr. That make sense. One side of the chuck has a small ridge and the other is flat. no ridge. Anyone have any idea who i could try to get a replacement? And thank you Uncut and CME

I've nursed one along for a long time with epoxy.

I can't view the attachments, but I assume that this is correct: The other two holding tabs opposite to the two left in place were either ground off, accidentally, or broke off. If you re-glue with epoxy, like CME, it will still function. I would use a newer "furry creature" of your choice for the pad....I took one apart today held in with wax, and had a polishing pad glued to rubber. I have several that have fibre pads with no glue, held in place only by the tight fit of the surround ring, and the compression sinks the backside of the pad into the radial notches for locking. This makes them easy to clean, and reinstall.

You could contact patternless.com(VSI) for newer pads, and pad types. They might be able to supply you with a perfect new chuck-and-pad replacement(s).
