    FYI coatings

Does anyone have any information on the durability and general performance (ie: crazing, scratch resistance, longevity, easy-to-clean, cosmetics) of FYI branded coatings in comparison to Essilar, Nikon, or Zeiss coatings (as those are the ones I'm familiar with).

Specifically, how do each of the following compare:

    1) iGuard vs TD2
    2) HD vs Crizal EC
    3) HD Plus vs Crizal Forte

Or the Zeiss/Nikon equivalents (Purecoat/Seecoat, for instance).

The only thing I've noticed so far is cosmetic. FYI coatings are very, *very* green in comparison to competitor's coatings; there's an almost overwhelming green sheen to them. Forte has a light green, hardly noticeable sheen, Seecoat is a bit greener but still ok, and Purecoat has a nice light blue sheen.

    Thanks!

To obtain proprietary information on private label coatings, you would have to contact FYI directly. Since their coatings are a part of their brand only made available to their locations or Vision Source members, I highly doubt that info ever leaves the door of Eyence, nor is it made public.

The signs of a quality anti-reflection coating are as follows:
    1) A LOW reflectance of all light including the allowed color of the spectrum.
    2) The color reflected is a "reflection" of the thickness of the coating.
    3) The consistency of the color(edge to edge)(lens to lens) is an indicator of the uniformity of the application of all layers.
    4) The repetition from batch to batch signals quality control.
    5) The lifespan and environmental survival rate as compared to the competitor lenses must be comparable.
    6) The ease of cleaning by the consumer is bonus.
    7) Reflectance testing rates.......whether scientific or observed count.
