Confused Can wear prescription sunglasses but not clear spectacles: why?

    Hi all,

I was wondering if anyone can help with my problem. I am slightly shortsighted (-1.50 , -0.25 , 180 on both the left and right eye). Prescription sunglasses are fine, I can wear them all day long with no problems. Prescription spectacles (clear lenses) are not: after a while my eyes get tired and reddish and I must take them off. It can be after 30 minutes or after 2 hours, but I cannot wear them the whole day.

I have seen a number of specialists, from ophthalmologists to orthoptists, but no one seems to have a clue. Some suggested that my eyes may have a slight tendency to diverge, which the spectacles accentuate causing my discomfort, but it's not clear why this doesn't happen with prescription sunglasses.

    Any ideas?

I have been reading about the use of tinted lenses to help with reading disorders; I do not have a reading disorder, but I am starting to wonder if the tint is what's making a difference. Maybe I should try with slightly tinted spectacles, e.g. an 82% light transmission tint, or the Transmissions Xtractive, which I understand have a slight tint with a similar LTF?

    Thanks.

As per posting guidelines, consumers can not post on Optiboard:

"This forum is for Eyecare Professionals. Consumers are not allowed to post on the Board, although they can read posts."

I suggest searching out a qualified professional to help with your needs.
