    Ray Ban Daddy O

    Hi ya'll!

What in the world is the Ray Ban Daddy-O made of? I have an older one (beat to heck) that I am working on and want to make sure I don't mess it up.
I've had these break and fall apart on me before so I've avoided heating it and isopropyl.
    Any other hints and tips?

    Thanks OptiBoard!

I've wondered too. Used to break inserting lenses. I assume you're talking about the matte black ones?

    Correct!
I called Lux yesterday and the poor gal tried really hard but only came up with 'plastic'. I'm supposed to get a call back from one of their experts but I'm not holding my breath.

I thought they were made out of grilamide? Not completely sure but remember hearing it. I know you have to watch chemical contact with the daddy o..

Most of the Ray Ban plastics are propionate. However I do believe golfnut is right, and the rubberized ones are nylon grilamid.

    LOL unglazium!

I heated that thing with a blowtorch and it wouldn't expand.

I think it's an alien compound...

    New material from Lux?
Turns out the 'rubber' texture is just a coating on the surface. My pt frame was melting/dissolving and after I cleaned it up a bit I discovered that the rubber had begun to liquefy into a goo...
Underneath does indeed look and feel like propionate or grilamid.
