I have heard of a number of different strategies for trying to separate slag from alloy, this is my own very simple yet very effective method and it has blown the minds of everyone I have shown.
Open the lid of your blocker reservoir and fill it with alloy, with a large tablespoon or something like start stirring the alloy until you have a good vortex going, (in other words get it spinning fast.) All the slag will come to the surface and fall into the bottom of this vortex, as the spinning slows the slag will stay on the surface and come to a stop dead center in a nice little pile. Simply take another spoon or a small flat spackling trowel and gently skim the slag off the surface and your done, put the slag in another container and save it.
When I have enough I will warm it with a small torch in a stainless steel container at an angle allowing any good alloy to drain out from under the slag and reclaim it, at the price of alloy I try to save it and make it last as long as possible, Give it a try lab monkeys.
