    Google Glass PAL

    Ok Optiboarders,

I haven't found any specific feedback yet on what PAL designs are working best or the worst for Glass wearers. Does anyone have any thoughts as to what to avoid? I have a patient already wearing the S Series Fit in Trivex. Seems fine to use right?

Any calls I've gotten asking about Google Glass I have referred them to Rochester Optical and their Smart Gold products designed for Glass:

I haven't seen much else out there yet but I have been trying to watch because I am beginning to get questions more frequently.

I wear the S lens myself and I find it to have very little distortion in the periphery. I can see why it's a good choice. Although I can't drink the varilux cool aid, and seriously, they had must have had flava-flay as the hype man for this lens, it's got some good optics. The Definity 3 might also be a good choice as it has comparable width in the visual fields with very little distortion.

Are people in progressives able to accommodate that well up close in a progressive in order to use glass? They have to look through the distance portion to see the screen right?

Depending on the distance Rx, I've got a feeling jewelers spots are going to make a comeback.

It would have to be a jeweler's spot. If you attached a monocle to that thing you'd need a police escort to keep the ladies off you.

Rochester Optical's Solution is really the route to go. The location were the heads up display is actually has a compensated power that focuses the patients vision to the perceived image. It also provides a secondary major reference point so that you are not suffering from a prismatic effect. In a standard progressive the optical center is were the patient's eye is at rest. If the eye moves from that position, prism pulls the eye back to that major reference point. Rochester Optical made a lens that lets there be an alternative MRP at the location of viewing the display. This reduces eye strain. They also changed the focal length to help accommodate for the different image distance. Sounds like a win win.
