Does anyone have an opinion on Adaptar/Adaptar Short Digital?? I am familiar with several brands of Digital, just not this one. Any thought on this brand would be helpful.

I am mostly a dummy, but wouldn't this be the ESSILOR Adapter design from 1992 processed on "digital" surfacing equipment?

You are correct Fezz. It is basically the Essilor Adaptar processed on the backside of the lens. Essilor digitized most of their progressives (Adaptar, Natural, Smallfit, Ovation). The only one that they didn't was the Accolade. They didn't do the Super No-line, but that just make sense. Lets let some of these older designs die already.

The Accolade Freedom is a Dual Side. It utilizes a standard Accolade and optimizes the back. There is no purely backside Accolade.
All on the back isn't always best. I've had plenty of success with duel add technology.
I don't disagree with that. I just thought it was odd, as they made backside digital versions of all their other Essilor designs.
As Fezz has indicated, step away from the cool-aid stand, and pass. Mediocre front side progressive, perfection backside, not really anything gained except a headache from getting spinned!
Once again, don't confuse "digital" and "freeform".

Haha... well we use to say that if you digitize an Adaptar, it is still an Adaptar. And then they did.
I find my moderate to high hyperopes with low cyl and close to optimal base prefer front side designs.

The Adaptar was a crappy lens... lets face it. Its like putting chocolate frosting on poo. Its still poo.
Aligning 2 optical corrective surfaces is a nightmare, especially when you consider that every different RX changes that alignment. Although its possible, it would require mapping of one surface before the the fabrication of the other to get right. That means de-blocking. That means holding up a generator. That means re-blocking. That is a lot of time spent.
Really funny. Can't stop laughing. What demographic does this lens serve? "I want the newest old technology availiable and I'm in no mood for improvement!!!" I'll take a pass. Plenty of better options.
In defense of the Adaptar Digital. It's a staple lens for safety eyewear and for clients that are getting a regular dress pair with a better lens it's easy for them to see the difference between a good lens and the ones they get for free through their safety program.
A "punishment" lens, Ken? I like it!
I used the adapter for my dad when he got his first progressive way back. He liked it fine. Haven't used it in many years, though.
