Do you ever cheat on your edger?

We have a pair of 7070's. At first I thought it seemed like a bad idea when my boss tricked the small tracer bar that pushes against the lens by pushing it out with his finger. However this technique seems to work 8 out of 10 times, if the point where the tracer slips off is under a half mm or so. It works better with zyl frames because the thicker frame material covers any visible imperfections. Also, when trying to trace large high wrap jobs (that probably should be sent out) i have found that if you trace one lens and rock it carefully you can get a decent trace without slipping off. I know many of the newer model tracers have a tilt function built in, that's why I tried it and it worked! Anyone else have any tips or cheats on their equipment they would like to share?

I've had to do that with 7070's in the past. It usually worked fine. The lens always had plenty of cutout room.

I got new equipment and the only cheat is a drill only- must tell the machine it is a re-touch after cutting junk lenses. We have the latest tracer and edger from Santinelli to avoid any major tricks. We love our Me1200 and LT-980 tracer for wraps.

OMG, I think the same thing every time I use one of these things, granted I can make it do phenomenal things while I walk away but the hissy fits and constant nagging with pop-ups and warnings, good grief you'd think I was changing diapers at a daycare.

I "tilt" my frames almost every time I trace and get a much better result on my 9000sx than if I let it trace both lenses normally.

Oh I wish I had an ME1200, but alas I am glad we didn't get one of the crappier new edgers because my 9000 does tons of great work.

Anyone make a shelf bevel by telling the edger to place the actual bevel a few mm off the wheel by touching up?

No, but that sounds really cool! You mean you are cutting the lens to the shelf bevel size first, and putting the bevel towards the front, then adjusting the chuck placement so that the bevel hangs off the front of the wheel, but grinds the back down to fit in a wrap?

I have reached into my Maxima Speed and tricked the mapping arm with a thin PD stick where it was missing the lens
