    recruiting sales rep

    Hi All,

    Does anybody have any experience with being or recruiting independent sales rep?
    We are a start up frame company and would like to recruit sales rep. However, we are not sure the process of recruiting them. If anybody would like to share their experiences, it would be great!

    Hello Michael,
    I was a headhunter (recruiter) for 9 years in a boutique recruiting firm that specialized in the optical industry. I recruited sales reps for eyewear companies and here's my advice: If you want to attract established brand reps with a following you HAVE to be willing- #1 to pay them more than what they are currently earning (otherwise who wants to work harder for same pay?) #2 Rather than independent status- maybe offer them employee status with benefits? Pay their expenses for travel? Get creative- think outside the box because introducing another new/unknown frame collection to an already saturated marketplace is very hard work for the first 1-2 years. Most established reps that sell brand eyewear would laugh at the thought of starting over again. Gotta give em a compelling reason to make a change and if they are any sales rep worth their salt the only thing that matters is MONEY MONEY MONEY. That's my experience. Another tactic would be to identify the reps that are what's called multi-lines reps and have them start penetrating the bigger markets in the US at least to give you some exposure and hopefully traction.
