Was anybody successful in tinting 1.74 to 75-80% solid color with tintable backside coat?

Lenny..............................this is absolutely no problem and could be done for the last 14 years. It needs higher heat and dyes that can withstand higher heat. It will tint from Polycarbonate to high index lenses to dark shades in 4 to 8 minutes.
The "MicroTint" system does not use a regular tinting unit, you use a microwave to do it. I came up with it around 1987, had it patented and it has sold and been used ever since. Check it out on my website.
Chris,
Did you actually try to tint 1.74?
No I did not............however if there is any way of tinting it, it will be with MicoTints.
Chris, if you reread my question you will see, that I am not asking for a way to tint 1.74!
I just wanted to know if someone was successful in this!
It will be very difficult. it will of course have to be surfaced and have your lab use a tintable hard coat. the difficulty is that tintable hard coats and 1.74 don't get along great. and i believe 1.74 has a relatively low heat distortion temp (170 ish Fahrenheit). also the factory front side hard coat often has issues with adherence at those temps. I probably should just say, no.
good luck.
sorry to your question, we haven't gotten it that dark, we have probably maxed out at 50-60 percent.
