    Licensed or Un-Licensed Optician Wanted for Optometric Office in Broward

    Just FYI.

    There is no such thing in Florida as an un-licensed optician. If someone calls themselves an optician, they MUST be licensed. The law states such. Even if one is certified by ABO, if they are not licensed, they cannot be called an Optician.

    Thanks for bringing that up Diane. Most people in the state (even those in the optical industry) are unaware of the title protection for FL Opticians. I have actually replied to some of the jobs posted on various sites advising them of the state law. It's funny we never see anybody looking for a "Un-Licensed Optometrist", "Un-Licensed Dentist", etc. There are other titles that they could use like Optical Technician, Ophthalmic Frame Stylist, or Optometric Assistant even. Usually when I see a job posting for an "unlicensed" optical position, it means they don't want to pay for an good Optician. It's sad but reality.
