So, April 7th Zeiss is replacing PureCoat with Purecoat Plus.

    http://www.zeiss.com/vision-care/en_...-coatings.html

    Whats the dif?

    http://www.crizalusa.com/Crizal-Lens...s/default.aspx

    And before you say >>

ones crizal and one is zeiss or
one is named avance and the other is named purecoat plus

Unless they've SERIOUSLY improved their massive scratching / crazing issues at Zeiss, Crizal would otherwise remain the clear winner.

I just talked to a person in the know at zeiss and they said there is nothing different with the Zeiss Plus. Apparently Zeiss is raising prices here and there by renaming things because they need to maintain a company profit margin. There seems to be internal problems causing margins to erode but rather than fix the internal stuff they are passing the buck along to labs and eventually to consumers.

I like Zeiss and i hate essilor, but essilor's premium coatings are better and have been for a while.

Maybe your source is correct, or maybe are disgruntled employees who don't know what they are talking about. I personally don't know which is accurate, but I found this interesting post from Robert Martellaro on 02-05-2014:

I've used both, I'm not a fan of pure coat as it tends to smudge more. The crizals are about the only essilor product that I like. If you have access to RB Tech use that. It has a great blue light blocker, harder to scratch, and has a cool red color.

Do you have experience with the new PureCoat Plus? I guess there is some disagreement about whether it is improved over the PureCoat.

I love them both. I like the reflex color of PureCoat better, but Avance does scratch and smudge less. Crizal Sapphire beats them both, and handily.

Not true! I hope Darryl will jump in here sometime soon, but I do know that this statement in erronious. It is a different coating, the process is different. Don't know the results, but I do know it is different.

I'm afraid that you've been misinformed. PureCoat PLUS utilizes a new top coating formulation that delivers longer lasting cleanability over the life of the prescription.

PureCoat PLUS also utilizes SureGrip technology for reduced lens slippage while edging.

The new PureCoat PLUS coating continues to employ a patented anti-static layer, an ultra-tough hard coating, and one of the lowest luminous reflectance values in the market.

    Best regards,
    Darryl

First, thank you all for resopnding. I'm curious though, Crizal has been touting anti static and ultra tough hard coating on the Avance and better for some time now. Is the pure coat plus going to be worse, better or just different in some way?

We don't currently publish any specific claims against Crizal AR coatings.
