    Air Optix Colors?

I had a friend tell me recently that her Ciba/Alcon rep told her to expect Air Optix Colors in the near future to replace Freshlooks. Have any of you heard anything similar? If so, do you have any details?

Yes they are on the way. Our OD was showing me a add about them in some magazine last week. We went to the web site and checked them out. And yes I can see them replacing Freshlook lenses.

Seeing as how they (Ciba now Alcon) have been saying this for over 5 years, I told my Rep I won't believe them until the fitting kit actually shows up in my office.

    From a news release:
Alcon is planning to launch Air Optix Colors this May.
"We are basically taking the FreshLook color technology and marrying that together with a silicone hydrogel lens," "We've embedded the color into the matrix of the lens, from the back side."

Current Air Optix users will not need to be refit should they wish to purchase one of the colored lenses.

The lenses will be available in two color groups: subtle, which consists of pure hazel, blue, green, gray and brown, as well as vibrant, which consists of brilliant blue, gemstone green and sterling gray.

Our rep said we'd receive a fitting set within a few months when she visited last month.

I saw the rep last week who said the fit set will be here early June, not sure of our cost but he suggested a retail of $84/box. Its a monthly lens I think.

I saw the grey and its actually really pretty, $84 a box is steep though

I think when we sold the old FreshLook product, it was around half that. But it was a 2-weeker, so probably about the same annual cost. Never liked selling colours anyway. But who knows.

I thought FLCB were sticking around??? Not that I like the lens, but I think many patients are not going to want to pay the higher price per box (even though you are talking a 2 week vs monthly lens as previously noted).

+1 especially when they aren't replacing them as directed anyway.

I spoke with our rep on Wednesday, and they'd just had a meeting about this subject. Apparently FL are not being discontinued - they're a huge seller in some markets. AOC will have the same minimum pricing policy as the Dailies Total One, so it will cost whatever Alcon says you have to charge. I guess that going forward all of their new lenses will be subject to that policy.

The office I work at just got these in. The colors are nice, but there's fewer colors. There's two green shades, two blue, two grey, and two brown. While the FL's aren't being discontinued we don't sell many colors as it is, so I think we'll get rid of those.
