    IOT Free-form in Glass

I'm sure hyperoptic won't mind me mentioning that all of the IOT designs are now available in glass. Including clear, pgx, 1.6/1.7, and pretty much anything else you'd want in glass.

This makes IOT the first major lens designer to be available in glass in the U.S. At least, as far as I'm aware.

Thats cool. Where are they surfacing these lenses? I would imagine technically any design could be made in glass but finding a lab with the equipment and willingness is the trick. If you have used these IOT designs in glass I would like to hear which lab you use. I'm a big fan of glass lenses, but FF have always been unavailable with our labs.

We've been surfacing them for several months.

Thanks Judy! I'm going to have to look into this...

We (FEA Industries) have all of the IOT designs available. I'm not sure that what Luzerne has is IOT designs.

Seriously that we offer them? Or that I'm not sure what the Luzerne designs are? Anything I've seen with Luzerne's Crown View has only had one design, and not included the breadth of the IOT catalog.

I wasn't looking to see who had the bigger lens catalog. Simply that the post was about IOT lenses.

The OP asked what labs were processing FF glass and I answered. The "shot" at Luzerne was unnecessary.

Ok for the original question from erichwmack about IOT and glass, because of the flexibility of the system the designs can be made in any optical material including glass. While many labs have the ability to process digital in the plastic spectrum, I only know of 2 in the United States able to process any digital in glass, and both of those folks have been represented in the thread. Lets not make this about who does or doesn't do which designs, but rather how can we assist in exceeding or patients expectations...Keep the competition friendly, honest, and informative.

Opposite ends of the quality spectrum. Glass FF is a novelty like a boxer engine in a gremlin. I like my current tech in current materials.

Not sure what you're implying with the quality spectrum, but I'm happy to go up against any other lab that's out there.

As far as glass goes, it's a viable alternative to conventional glass progressives at a similar price point and better optics and availability. I don't think anyone plans for it to displace plastics.

To follow up regarding our quality - here's a link to a QC report independently produced by IOT. I'm sure hyperoptic would vouch for its' source. This was made from lenses we sent them, and mentions that the "quality of the lab is good".

I'm not saying this makes us better than any other labs, but just that we're at least as good. I'd also be interested to see similar reports from other labs.

No offense meant the two labs are also on the opposite ends of the price spectrum. BTW I never placed either lab on the quality spectrum, however your response removes all doubt.

It's actually the 'opposite ends of the price spectrum' thing that usually leads people to believe there's a compromise in quality. I'm well aware of this perception in the market place, as most of the big names have been spending a lot of advertising dollars convincing people that they need to pay a lot for a good lens. IOT has proved this isn't true.

So, if I seemed defensive, it's because I care about the image we have in terms of quality. Since we tend to be on the less expensive side, I wanted to make sure that everyone is aware that, actually, we have quality at least as good as any other lab.

I haven't had the greatest experience with your lab but I wish you well.

I'm sorry to hear that, but that's a fair enough opinion. At any rate, any independent lab, even if it's not us, is still a good thing!
