Do you know of any high schools that have an elective opticianry/ optometric assistant course like the autobody or shop courses?

Yes, I think there is still one in the Tampa, FL area. Not sure of the details but I saw it on another website a while back. Here are some links.

I have heard that the Royal Oak Michigan school district still has an elective "Optical Mechanics" course through a local vocational college. I took that course through adult education a long time ago while working at my second optical job. I learned to cut glass lenses which shows you how long ago it actually was.

There was a program in Hanover County VA but I am not sure if it is still going or not.

Check with the Opticianry Department Head at JSRCC.
