My First Oakley OTD EDGE job

I made this client a pair of lenses for an Oakley Flak Jacket approx a year ago through an indie FF lab.

    Rx:

    +4.00 -0.75 x 180
    -1.25 -0.75 x 180

Client has diminished acuity in Rt eye due to amblyopia.

    PDs are 31/31

Take a look at the thickness. In the first photo, this was done with the indie lab's lenticularization process to thin the plus lens.
In the next photos are the same lenses with Oakley's OTD EDGE process.
You will notice a sort of feathering to the lenticular area. Oakley says this is less disturbing than a fully-polished but distorted blend area.

With the reduced chord length to the lenses, the effective frame wrap angle decreased by 5 degrees, from 25 to 20.

Client pick the new lenses up this past Sat. Said they looked great! Time will tell.

I can't say Im a fan of Oakly. I don't like the feel of the skull temples and what the heck is unobtanium anyway? When a Px buys a frame and something happens to them a 6 months from the sale date it takes forever to get the new frames in from Oakly if its even still available. But I have to admit, the Oakly RX program is pretty awesome. The online ordering is straight forward and easy to use. The Oakly calculator is neat and displays all of the information for the patient including all of the discounts they get with vsp and the lenses come out looking really nice.

If this new Oakley process performs as advertised it'll be great for my customers. IMHO -/+3.00 is very limiting, and its always the Px with -4.75 -0.50 OU that wants to go into a Flak Jacket. I have tried on the sample that Oakley had sent us, and I could not see the feathering in my periphery.

I'm kind of surprised they didn't add some thickness to the OS for balance.

    Time will tell Update:

Client came back in for the first time since delivery.

"Wonderful! Sharpest glasses I have ever had!"

Oakley True Digital, now with Expanded Rx range through their proprietary "EDGE" processing:

Excellent work, guys. Keep it up!

I love the Oakley RX program. They really figured out how to put an RX into a curved lens with some amazing results. My biggest problem with Oakley is the frame program. They drop frames from the catalog on an almost monthly basis. I wrote a letter to Oakley. If anyone's interested ill post it. It found it's way to some important people and there considering some changes.
