    Which tights for glazing

Yes, you read the title correctly - but you may be disappointed.

I have an old Essilor edger, which isn't attached to the mains water supply. As a result, we use one of those square filters below the machine. Those things are expensive, and I want something more disposable to filter the lens gunk out. My awesome solution is ladies tights. They'll filter a little (prolonging the life of the 'proper' filter below, and they're cheap enough to chuck out regularly.

Has anyone ever done this? I'm sure I have seen a post or two about it on here before, but couldn't get anything on a search.

If you have done it, then is there a best thickness to use? I'm sure there's lots I don't know about ladies tights, but I'm eager to learn.

    And, please, no pictures...

Stay away from fishnet stockings! Just use knee high nylons. Color of your preference.

We did that at Sterling Optical at Crossgates Mall in Albany back in the day. Thinking about doing the same for our Briot Accura CX.

We use a paint bag strainer on our Briot, stronger than tights.

Damn, I was hoping fishnets would work - I've got loads left over from the weekends

It's a good plan, I'm looking for a cheap option, I'll let you know how I get on.

Do you throw those away? Wouldn't that be expensive - seems like they're more than tights are...just wondering what your solution is like?

They last for months on end and I just rinse them out when I empty them. Come to think of it I haven't purchased one in at least a year+

That might be an issue, we're trying not to rinse them down the sink anymore, two reasons - blocked pipes & environmental concerns.

But they look really good, I might have to try them to see if they work well!

    Wait, really?

Can I buy this somewhere other than a bridalwear store?

I've used knee high stockings as well as what I can assume is a paint bag strainer that is currently attached. The advantage of the bag is that I can empty and reuse but I like the flexibility of the stockings as well as the quick change out. Since knee highs are typically cheap (at least those shopping for their edger are usually in a drugstore/grocery store), I'm sure the thickness will be similar:)

So I bit the bullet (so to speak) and stole a pair of my girlfriends (honest!) tights (15 dernier - pretty sheer).

I doubled up the legs (does that create 30 dernier? Is it linear?), and attached them to the outflow tube from the edger (rubber band). So far so good. I'll be trialling different thicknesses if I have any issues. But we're 8 jobs in, and so far nothing has leaked out (which sounds absolutely disgusting in this context).

    This isn't a bump.

I've moved on - turns out sheer tights were a gateway into this sort of this. Upgraded to a lovely black knee high (guess they'd be stockings in the US). 40 derner - extra thickness.

Will see how these work, only got two days out of the previous style.
