Blue Jumper New Concept: progressive power, perfect backup glasses ..........................

Somehthing new I found. Here is a newly patented concept in inexpensive glasses that could become a good solution as ready made back up glasses.

The lenses in the frame move sideways as per drawing below and change the power from + 0.50 to + 5.00 Diopters, and about the same in the minus version.

power change by the 2 lenses moving opposite

    by turning the wheels.

Alvarez concept, most popularly associated with Adlens. Many copies/versions around.
if anyone here remembers the 1980s Humphrey Visual Analyzer, a phoroptor-less subjective exam modality which used the alvarez concept and a mirror. Featured no instrumentation in front of subject.

Died a quiet death because once again, ECPs were too reluctant to change to see the future and it's advantages.

constipation will kill us off too, if we don't embrace change soon.

any mentioning of novelties on the market seems to be on the ignore list with posting members
of OB and when they get popular they will still be ignored in spite.

If they put some disc wheels up top of the frame to change the cyl the pt can refract themselves. Tada! no need to go to the eye dr again! Oh, and some prune juice will clear up that constipation

I've got those in my shop. Not that stylish...The ones I have are kind of nerdy, but you turn the little knobs on the side and the power changes from +3 to -6 sphere. I've sold a few of them, I remember a couple of the patients...one had a really different spherical RX for reading so the traditional OTC didn't work for him (he didn't want to put any money into RX readers), plus he was a "gadget guy" liked the cool factor! The other was a lady who plays many different instruments in a band, so her music can be at different distances away, so these made her feel like she could have 1 pair and control the power the way she needs it.

Interesting concept, I thought they were pretty neat...they would probably work well for someone who was in between RX's and needed something temporary before the final RX was given, i.e. after cataract surgery?? Never sold them for that reason, but I can see where someone might use them in that instance.
