  • Avesis Insurance....Any info is appreciated!

I just wanted to get other peoples opinions or info about Avesis insurance. Our doctor is thinking of taking it on and I have heard some awful things about it. Can anyone out there provide some insight? Thank you in advance!

I don't recommend it. It's difficult to use. Fortunately our office only does a few a year. You have to get online auth and submit online...it's not as easy as other insurances. Then you have to use an essilor lab. Not your own. Turn around time for us is a little longer, but not horrible.

Do you know how it compares to VSP billing wise? We currently take VSP and I do not like it! It is so time consuming. I am the only Optician in my office, so I don't have a lot of time to be doing insurance paperwork etc.
When you say turn around time is a little longer, is it a few days longer, a week?

I would say it is more like Eyemed. You go online to get the auth and you submit it in a similar way. No idea what their payments are like since I don't handle that end. As far as versus VSP...well it's been a while since I've done VSP, but there are no special codes. (I do NOT miss VSP!!!) You do everything by the procedure and vision codes (V2020 etc). I'd say turn around time is at most 1 week longer (in my limited experience since we don't do a ton).

we JUST took this on i started a thread about this a few months ago when i heard we were going to start taking it. As far as i got, the reimbursement is supposedly AWFUL and it seems as though the filing part is pretty easy. we actually have NOT seen a patient with this insurance who needs glasses since we started taking the insurane (all lasik patients of course :)) but i heard all bad reviews when i was asking people about it.
