Unhappy Why would doctor do this?

Is there any reason why a doctor would want a patient's visit deleted?

Don't think you can do this, legitimately. Got something to hide?

Probably not something one should speculate about on a public forum. If you cannot talk to your doctor about it, how the heck is anybody else going to help you.

Not sure about the rest of the thread, but I do have an answer to the original question why a doctor would want a visit deleted.

Lots of users out there that know you can't withhold a record even if payment hasn't been made.

Or, there are trial contacts that were never fully evaluated and patient wants to order. I've had that one happen. The yelling that they have a right to the medical record when the fitting fees weren't paid.

We routinely "prep" charts by creating a file, entering pertinent hx, and "notes" the doctor may want the day before. If they no show, we delete them to not confuse matters. Scrolling through historical files and seeing some of the info already filled out could cause problems.

Seems grossly inappropriate, given any circumstance. But you definitely need to speak to the doctor.

Those were the very reasons I thought of, Harry: Non-payment for professional fees or non-compliance with contact lens fitting standards.

A patient who has become combative and hostile toward the clinic and its staff. Full refund and expunge the records. Not that I have ever experienced such things.

Perhaps that's legal in the US.

The patient is given a full refund and politely asked to never darker their doorway again. The records do in fact belong to the doctor or the clinic; as they are the custodians of said records. If a refund is given then no services are rendered. If insurance was involved, contact the insurance company and ask them to place all benefits back to said patient and refund the insurance company any monies paid out to you. Its just one scenario.

This is made more complicated in the UK by the NHS ways of doing things. I have MANY patients I'd love to expunge from our records - I think I'd even pay them some days...

I love that word..."expunge"! Next time I have a PITA, I'll be thinking in my head "I would like to expunge you!"

    (Sorry, long hours, short week!)

Perhaps we could all use an expunge bath.
