    Hello Peter,
we used Hoya too and my personal opinion is that it is not as good as they tell us. I think their Lotus effect is crap. For me, Shamir Glacier Plus is the best coating. We mostly use Essilor, but had some troubles with the coating in the past. The coating forms cracks after some months.

I am biased for sure, a big HOYA fan, but HOYA is the only company substrate matching their AR thin films (exception of poly). This gives their AR treatments an incredibly stable and consistent performance across all indices. Second to none in my opinion.

I think Hoya coatings are great too, but apparently not for the reason you mentioned; I've been corrected on here that apparently most coatings are substrate matched.

+1. Hoya is the only company that substrate matches when applying their coatings - the other companies claim they do the same thing but is pure BS. I constantly have adhesion/crazing issues with 'E' & 'Z' coatings. Proof is always in the pudding.

Why don't you test the coatings by yourself? Order 2, 3 or 4 pairs of glasses and fit them in some cheap frames. Do the test in your car, at night on a busy road. You will find out, what AR coating ist best very quick.

Seiko was substrate matching before Hoya. Its not really that magical. The reason more manufactures don't is the US aversion to Dip Coatings (we like spin coatings, which have fewer index choices) and the huge variety of equipment at Essilor labs, consistency is a huge issue.

Have a good hard coat, you will have a good AR. Its that simple.
