    Greetings from Chemistrie Eyewear

We are grateful that discussions on OptiBoard have helped publicize our Chemistrie clip-on lens system and we appreciate the support and feedback from many of the top participants on this forum. We are pleased to have this opportunity to be a sponsor.

One of our goals is to expand our offering to include other products that will help independent retailers compete. We cannot think of a better way to introduce and receive feedback on new products than through a sponsored forum on OptiBoard.

How many here that roll their own Chemestries adjust the magnet offset for base curve and wrap considerations, and by how much?

I'm assuming you are talking about edge to the magnet center? You could complicate your life and use 4mm/cos(pana) for the distance to attain the true 4mm from edge on a flat plane but it really doesn't matter since the overlapping of magnets and stability of the lens with a minimum 2.5mm buffer zone seem to the key points of magnet placement. Plus even a 25 degree tilt is requires less than 0.5mm in movement, not significant enough to ruin a smooth process and very little benefit to gain if any.

I often adjust the magnet hole depth for higher plus lenses, to avoid drilling all the way through the lens. I also tweak the clip lens size according to frame style, or features, to avoid the clip rubbing on the frame or interfering with the magnets touching. I don't have a set size I adjust one way or the other, just figure it out case by case. I really like the whole Chemistrie line, and pressed really hard to bring them in to our shop. I am excited to try the clip readers, or even the 3D movie clips. So far we haven;t been able to sell any of those yet.

I find that 8 base lenses with frame wraps >6 degrees definitely requires mag-offset adjustments...with values of -.6 to -.7 at times. I verify this by mounting the mag layer lenses only to the assembled eyewear, and then noting the symmetry of the layer overlap. Btw, I also increase the layer size offset simultaneously with these type jobs as well.

What kind of edgers are you guys using to process these in house? We sell them now, but when we upgrade our edger doing these in house is on the priority list.

I have the Santinelli ME-1200 with the 'click' software. It makes the process Easy Breezy Lemon Squeezy.

We have certified retailers and/or wholesale labs using edgers from the following:

    Santinelli
    MEI
    National Optronics (7E)
    Briot
    Weco (AIT Industries)
    Essilor Instruments
    Coburn Technologies

Not all of the edgers made by the these companies will make Chemistries (the sales rep you are dealing with should know). If you want to confirm whether we have worked with a particular model, you can contact us and ask for me, Anna or Casey. We do our best to stay neutral with respect to recommending particular edgers. Each retailer has its own specific needs and budget.

We typically have a buy-in program that includes initial inventory, tools, display kit and an in-office training session on how to make the product.

I just had Anna Marie come to my office and train me. It was a great pleasure to work with her. I see there will be a number of little tricks necessary to making these work well and hope I figure them out quickly (and inexpensively).
