Opticianry Summit Foundation


Timeline:

2012- The Vision Council assembles (Core Team) a cross section of the opticianry community to plan a meeting of Opticianry representatives. The Core Team: EdDeGennaro, MEd, ABOM, LDO, Diana Finisecy, ABOC, FNAO, Tom Hicks, ABOC, LDO, HFOAA, Madeleine Kruhsberg, ABOM, FNAO, Doug Pelkey, ABO-AC, NCLEC, LDO. TheVision Council provided staff and financial support to the Core Team.
2012– The Core Team creates title and purpose statement for upcoming event. The Opticianry Summit: To create a shared vision for opticianry, a practical strategic plan and commitment to action.
2012 - The Opticinary Summit to be held May 1-2in Fairfax, Va. The Core Team has invited approximately 60 representatives from national organizations, state societies, educators, certification bodies,independent retail, large retail and manufacturers.
2012 - The Core Team selects Innovation Partners International to design and facilitate the Summit.
May 1-2 2012 - Opticianry Summit takes place: Collaboration of attendees creates goal areas to be worked on moving forward.
Goal Areas: Branding and Consumer Confidence, Understanding the impact of Healthcare Reform and Managed Vision Care, National Education Standards, Licensing, Accreditation & Certification and Continued Collaboration among Opticianry Groups.

Steward Team to initiate Goal Areas.
May 24, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team creates Basecamp account to communicate and track progress on projects.
June 3, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team holds first in person meeting. Steward Team agrees to monthly status update conference calls and quarterly meetings. Steward Team assigns Goal Area responsibilities to team members. Teams make commitments to establish purpose statements to Goal Areas and reaffirm Summit’s “commitment to action.” Opticianry Summit announces Summit website: www.opticianrysummit.com Next meeting planned for August 27, 2012.
July 5, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team holds first monthly conference call to update progress on projects.
August 14, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team’s Sam Morgenstern announces the Collaboration Team will conduct a Collaboration Forum to be held at Vision Expo West in Las Vegas,Friday September 7, 2012. Meeting will bring two groups who attended Summit back together to continue dialogue on moving Opticianry forward.
August 14, 2012 – Opticinary Summit Steward Team announces Press Conference to be held at Vision Expo West in Las Vegas. The OSST will announce results of the Summit and the next steps.
September 7, 2012 – Press Conference: Opticinary Summit Steward Team announce development of the Opticinary Summit Foundation. It is being created to provide a way for others in the optical industry to contribute to the future of opticianry projects, the foundation will serve as the fundraising vehicle to support to the project goal areas created during the May 2012 summit.
September 7, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team – John Bruening, Managed Vision Care team leader announced that the Healthcare Reform and Managed Vision Care Team held simultaneous meetings with VSP and Eyemed at Vision Expo West. Chris Cornell from VSP discussed future of VSP and relationships with Opticians. Kathy Kozsely, Credentialing and Compliance Supervisor for Eyemed discussed new opportunities for Opticians to provide Eyemed benefits without participating Optometrist on location. Both groups agreed to continue dialogue with Opticianry group.
September 7, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team holds Collaboration Forum. Meeting was facilitated by Innovation Partners International.
October 3, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team announces that the Branding Team led by Dee Dee Finisecy have released a Branding Survey to all Opticians nationwide. Trade magazines to release the surveys website to promote greater participation.
November 14,2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team holds monthly progress phone call.
December 2, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team – Branding Team announces idea for YOU TUBE “Proud to be an Optician” Contest originally proposed by OSST team member Sam Morgenstern.
December 3, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team – Holds meeting in Washington DC at Vision Council offices.Branding Team announces results of Branding Survey: all but two states represented in survey with 863 responses.
December 10,2012 – Opticianry Summit Foundation is officially certified through the District of Columbia as a501 c 3 non-profit organization.
December 10, 2012 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team announce Summit webinar to be held May15-16 and 18^th.The dates have been selected to allow participants from East and West coasts to participate and one weekend date.
December 11,2012– Opticianry Summit Foundation Bylaws drafted.
January 19, 2013– Opticianry Summit Steward Team presents at OAA Leadership Conference during general session as well as presenting Goal Area updates during three breakout sessions.
February 26,2013 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team – Announce hiring of Monica Fazio as administrative assistant.
February 28,2013 – Opticianry Summit Foundation announces $2,500 donation from the Professional Opticians of Florida.
March 4, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team holds meeting in Washington DC at Vision Council office. Doug Pelkey announces working group formed to produce Opticianry Study.
March 6, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Foundation announces $10,000 donation from Transitions Corporation.
April 5, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Foundation announces $162,000 donation from Vision Council. Majority($100,000) of contribution to fund Opticianry Study.
May 15, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team conducts Webinar for West Coast at 10:00 pm EST.
May 16, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team conducts webinar for East Coast at 7:00 pm EST.
May 18, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team conducts final webinar at 12:00 pm EST.
June 3, 2013 – Opticianry Summit Steward Team holds meeting in Washington DC at Vision Council.
