It is by universal misunderstanding that all agree. For if, by ill luck, people understood each other, they would never agree.
While i can see where they are coming from with this deal...I just wonder if someone really thought it out, as i can see it putting folks off using SS when they have to watch them horrific reffereing decisions week in & out...
I'll start a new chantRef ya had better go to D&A for ya next spex.....
Jack,
According to , BBC's website , it is Welsh Rugby union referees that are being sponsored.
that slogan is likely to go down very well and how it is meant to help diffuse hostility, only speccies can tellPlacards with the slogan "Get your blinking eyes tested ref" will be distributed by Specsavers to fans to help diffuse the hostility faced by many of today's referees.
Found it on speccies website. they do have that shirt sponsorship deal you mentioned, Jack. Just what is Doug upto!

Specsavers strikes first UK shirt sponsorship deal with football refs
£1m shirt deal takes Scottish referees into league of their own.
SPECSAVERS OPTICIANS, the UK's biggest optical retailer, has struck a deal worth £1million to sponsor the shirts of Scotland's football referees for four years.
In only the third deal of its kind in Europe, following in the footsteps of Spain and France, the cash will be ploughed into grassroots coaching and development of referees. It will also assist in the recruitment and training of a further 300 referees this season, taking Scotland's total to well over 2,000.
The deal is believed to be one of the biggest Scottish shirt sponsorship packages outside the Old Firm.
Specsavers' Scottish Region Director, David Quigley, explains: 'This sponsorship deal was obviously very attractive to us. It's unique in the UK, very high profile and naturally, the irony of the association is sure to appeal to the Scottish football fans' sense of humour. We have 29 stores in Scotland and this deal will reinforce our brand strengths.
'What's really fantastic about this deal, however, is that our sponsorship funds will be used to good purpose. For the first time, Scottish referees are being handed the cash to nurture young talent, provide better, more sophisticated coaching facilities and teaching materials and attract and retain in the region of 300 new referees every year.
'Football clubs have long enjoyed the benefits of sponsorship deals. Referees are just as important to the game as they are so it's our hope that this sponsorship will help fund the youth of today to become the refereeing stars of tomorrow.'
Donald McVicar, Head of Referee Development for the Scottish Football Association, says: 'Referees at all levels of the game in Scotland will be delighted to be part of this major initiative and sponsorship agreement with Specsavers.
'The funding provided will allow us to make positive strides in the training, coaching and development of our existing referees and will greatly assist in encouraging new recruits to the game.'
FIFA has also welcomed the news. George Cumming, FIFA's Head of Refereeing, says: 'FIFA is very pleased to support this sponsorship initiative. Scottish refereeing is highly regarded at top international level and this funding will allow Scottish referees at all levels to benefit from the many initiatives prepared by the SFA Referee Development Department.'
FIFA referee, Hugh Dallas, says: 'This is excellent news for Scottish refereeing. At every level of the game in Scotland we carry out our duties in a professional manner and this commitment from Specsavers is recognition of our contribution to the game.
'The money will enable us to provide the very best of materials for the training of the up and coming referees across the country and ensure that our reputation in the world of football is maintained in the years ahead.
'Over the decades, supporters have implored referees, in mostly light-hearted banter, to get their eyes tested, and the link to an optical retailer is therefore an obvious one.'
The deal comes hot on the heels of a shirt sponsorship package struck between Specsavers and Welsh Rugby Union referees. It also follows a training kit sponsorship package agreed a year ago between Specsavers and the Scottish Football Association Referees (Glasgow).
