Idea Distortion along the Axis of astigmatism

Are eyes moving along the axis of astigmatism encounter less distortion vs when the eyes are not moving along the axis? For I have a Px with

    Wearer Rx:
    OD: -1.75 -2.50 @ 179
    OS: -1.25 -2.75 @ 135
    Nikon Balance

She complained of when she moves her eyes diagonally upward (along 135) to her right, she experiences a noticeable amount of distortion in her right eye. But doing that to the left there was literally no distortion in her left eye.
    Thx

Sure, but it's really 90 degrees away from the axis.

Edit: You are right. I re-read your post.

There can be waves or aberrations anywhere in the lens. I don't think it has anything to do with the axis.

You may want to reavaluate and start from scratch. If you have the ability to trail frame the patients RX, I'd start there. What lens material are you using? Where is the seg height, what are the eyewire dimensions of the frame. I'd measure the FBC of the lenses when mounted and removed.

There are different prism amounts being experienced by the eyes, as well as one moving towards the temple side of the lens and the other towards the nasal ...... if the lens has any difference in the upper half between the two quadrants this could also contribute.

I think what the patient is experiencing is off-visual-axis aberration in the meridian that is not best-curve corrected.

I bet Barry's patients don't experience that, huh Barry!?

Is this a known good Rx? If it's new, what was the last Rx?

Thank you Drk and rdcoach5. its one of the above. But I really would like to know if the eye experience more distortion not running along the axis of astigmatism.

If surfaced accurately, and the most accurate is digital , asheric digital surfacing in all directions, called atoric, is the best method to eliminate distortion from off-center gaze when axes do not align.

Further, what is known about this particular pt's motility? Any Hx of past issues in any other (or without) SRx? Often these little details can be left off Hx forms. Another possibility is that if this new SRx is clearer than the previous, sometimes small binocularity issues that may have been subtly obscured by a previous 'less than optimal' SRx can become apparent when things are cleaned up.

It is clearly impossible to make any weighty assumptions with the limited information provided here, but this can sometimes be another area to scrutinize.

    - to follow your question - did the pt. then also experience complimentary distortion in the left eye when moving along the 180 or 90?
