If I am set on buying a product regardless of sales promotions then a surprise 20% off is nice. If I am shopping around I'm usually not enticed by anything less than 30% and 50% will get me to buy it even if I don't need it.

I have been marketing eye biz differently than other opticals for 27 years. Due to the flailing economy no matter what sale it is any store, it always seem to be a "bait & switch" (thanks walmart, car dealers and yard sales)) everything has been devalued, especially in our industry due to LUX. I recently moved to a main street in front of a busy red light in surburbia with a traffic count of 9-12,000 local cars per day. We made a Black sign and had kids standing outside that said "BLACK FRIDAY SALE" anything black in the store friday is 20% off but just for Friday. I like to do random out of the box thinking since I'm not a SALE kinda store. once you start, there's no turning back discounting.
