Continuing Ed credits?

Hi all. I was hoping some of you might be able to point me in the right direction for home study courses to renew my ABO certification. Since I'm no longer working for Lenscrafters (yes, I am yet another person who learned the craft there, but also learned that when it comes right down to it, management at all levels is more concerned about covering their own patooties than quality, good work environment, or fairness...just my humble opinion) I don't have access to their continuing ed opportunities. And since I'm 4 1/2 months pregnant and planning to move to another state sometime soon, I'm not in the market for another job where I might get help. SO......do any of you know where I can get ahold of homestudy courses so I can get all my credits in before spring? I could also attend classes either here in Upstate South Carolina, or around Raleigh, NC where we're moving to. HELP! :)

Contact the OAA and the CLSA Web page. They have more mail credits than you need. Also some of the "links" from the optiboards can lead you to more continuing education.

There a company out of CA called Optical Training Institute (OTI) that offers home courses.I have seen their ads in Vision Monday and Eyecare Business.The have a website which you can reach with a search engine.Good luck-

There is an online site where you can take courses over your computer and know if you passed right away. You get your credits within a couple of days. It is called Optical Solutions, the site is www.onlinecec.com

I filled out an online thing at....Vision Monday, I believe, sponsored by Transitions, and received a certificate in the mail to send in for one credit. There is also an article/test in September's Eyecare Business magazine that you can fill out and send in for one credit.

I understand you can take the classes/test at Walmart's optical department, where they are beamed in by satellite.

The National Academy of Opticianry will be able to give you lots of options. The NAO is dedicated solely to our education. Look them up at www.nao.org.
