    a puzzle...for me at least

Pt came in with specs dispensed about a month ago. He complains of vertical glare around light bulbs (specifically the ceiling fan, lamps in his house) in the distance. I can also see the glare myself looking through his lenses.
They are 1.67 trifocals, transitions with carat advantage coating. They are identical to specs purchased two years ago from our office, same material, base curve, segs, frame, even rx within a quarter diopter cylinder. The previously purchased pair show no glare.
    Any thoughts?

Is it a high minus lens with a very thin center? Look for cracking and crazing of the coating.

One reflex color is green, one is purple. The rx is
    -3.50-0.50x145
    -5.75-2.25x16
    add +2.25
It has slab off as does previous pair to address diplopia in the near. The near in the new pair is fine, glare only occurs in the distance.

+1. Sounds conspicuously like AR crazing.

If they have been exposed to heat, ie adjusting the frame (if it's a zyl) with an air warmer, is a good recipe for crazing the A/R on a 1.67 lense.

I had a patient with a similar problem. I looked at the lenses under a slit lamp microscope and could see that the fining marks had not been completely polished out.
    You need to re-make them.
