MD's walk out of ACA discussion...

Saw a link on Goggle news to Fox about ophthalmologists walking out of a discussion on the upcoming implementation of the ACA.

Goggling Ophthalmologists + Obamacare brings up a bunch of conservative blogs about an MD's tweet from a conference and how many of the physicians walked out before it was over.

Several links down brought up this link that looks like the reason why they are so upset as the OD's are lobbying to become more empowered to treat patients.

So it goes on and on...

    Just as predicted.

...and there will be a vacuum that only a select few will be prepared to fill.

Gotta love the fear tactics on pjmedia.

I am torn on these issues, but at the end of the day (or even the middle of the day) if we want to provide care for the 50 million that don't currently have healthcare, we are going to have to stretch the rules, whether it be ODs, physician's assistants, nurses, etc.

And my guess is the MD's are going to have to come to grips with the fact that their days of $250K yearly earnings are probably numbered.

I'm not gloating when I say that but just calling it like I see it.

The Optician wants to write eyeglass and contact lens Rx's.....Mr O.D. is not happy about that.
Now Mr O.D. wants to be called a physician and have the privilege to write more Rx's for oral meds and now Mr M.D. is not happy about that.
Each one of us want more of the pie and none of us want to give anything up.........it goes on and on.
I look forward to retirement so I can kick back and watch everyone continue to squabble like kiddies on the playground.

And to complete the circle, Mr M.D. sells glasses.....Mr. Optician isn't happy about that.
I made my living for many years on referrals from the local M.D.'s, and now I work in a practice with all 3 O's.
I will retire at the end of this year, and work for free for Remote Area Medical; that'll show'um.

Congrats on the pending retirement FF. Few of us opticians get to retire! (we're usually found slumped over an edger!)

Just remember, the kiddies will not be squabbling in the playground, they will be squabbling over your sorry arrested cardiac butt in the ER. You just may be receiving your primary care from Danny Donut, OD.

I am not sure about this. Even with some work being delegated, their are not enough MDs to handle all of the patients that will be eligible for care. The biggest shortage is at the GP/primary care level. Cardiac, orthopedic, neuro and other highend specialists will still make big $$.

But hey, I am just speculating. Nobody can say for sure what will happen. This could be huge. Or this could be the biggest non-event since y2k. Truth is, nobody knows.

I wouldn't be an MD for any less than $350k per year.

    Just sayin...

They can walk right out if they want...before the door is shut, someone else will walk right in. It's the American way.
