    Rx help

I Have a patient who came in with an outside rx. (R -0.50-4.00x90 L -1.25-3.25 x 77 +2.50 1.0 bo ou) varilux airware Would anyone have any recommendations for a lens that would thin this cyl down? I want to stay in a varilux product because the patient is very nervous. But I am wondering if high index or trivex would be better. Patient is also getting roll and polish, AR coating. thanks for you knowledge!!!!
Grateful to be what I am, and not pretending to be someone I am not!

Change the frame if they're not happy otherwise don't fix what isn't broke.

Agree with Unc Fester, and NCspecs............more will be gained, cosmetically, by altering the frame shape and or size.

Shooting from the lip.....I would say switch to a 1.6 index for better abbe, and lighter weight than trivex.........and am I to believe you are reducing the lens size from a 56 A to a 50 A dimension?

imho: You're asking for trouble. I wouldn't drill 1.7 use 1.67 or trivex if you must but poly should work. The smaller size is the key here to make them thinner and I still don't know the lens type so I can't know if the minimum fit height is sufficient. You can always ask the lab to increase the B to make it fit but I'd be leery of using the mfgr suggested min fit as it will probably feel cut off compared to the bigger lens size they'll be changing from.

Have you plugged these numbers into the Opticampus thickness calculator to see how small a difference in thickness you're going to get for a lot more money? It's very easy to work. Try it!

Oh-- If you must use 1.7 be sure to AR.

    Varilux doesn't come in 1.7, just 1.74.

Personally I would skip the roll on the edge, I think it looks horrible from the front.

I agree. I think rolling makes the lenses look worse. I also think a glossy polish induces glare. I would do a satin finish. Not shiny but not white either.
