Hello everyone! We have an opening for a Lab Technician/Manager at our office in Port St. John, FL. We are a small, locally-owned business which is continuing to grow through the economic hardships in our area. We work in a fast-paced, high energy office, surrounded by fantastic patients and fellow employees who make the work day truly enjoyable!


Our Lab Manager/Technician is dedicated to giving our patients exceptional service through their fast pace and commitment to customer service. They purchase and maintain an inventory of lenses. They control inventory expenses and maximize inventory turnover levels through knowledgeable lens ordering and the reduction in costly errors and breakages. They block, edge and groove lenses from single vision plastic up through trivex progressive. They are responsible for the daily flow of the lab, including checking in jobs, sending jobs to the appropriate outside labs, contacting patients, dealing with 'hot' jobs and backs up the optical through answering the phones and dispensing glasses in the appropriate manner when needed. They are in charge of the cleanliness of the lab, maintenance of the equipment and overall organization and structure. They are capable of working at a fast pace – edging, on average, 40 – 50 jobs per day, while keeping up with their other responsibilities. They are detail-oriented, responsible, trustworthy and dependable.

Essential Functions:

*Purchases lenses and maintains an appropriate inventory stock at all times (I nventory control)
*Manages the customer services responsibilities of the lab
*Delivers completed, high-quality eyewear that satisfies the high standards of our business
*Continually keeps the lab clean, neat and organized
*Appropriately maintains the lab equipment
*Blocks, edges and grooves lenses on a daily basis
*Uses the lensometer to correctly check-in jobs from outside labs
*Packages and sends jobs to outside labs on a timely basis
*Backs up the Optician by correctly dispensing jobs and answering the phones
*Keeps on top of jobs to ensure they are not running longer than normal, contacting patients immediately when delays occur
*Ability to work under the Office Manager and have a willingness to operate within certain guidelines

Preferences and Requirements:

*A two-year degree is preferred, but not required
*A minimum of two years working as a lab technician is preferred, but not required
*Basic bookkeeping and experience using computer programs such as Word, Excel and medical EMR programs are required
*Three professional references (Supervisors or Managers) are required. It is preferred that your last three, recent employers submit this reference information. Please submit this information with your cover letter and resume.
*The ability to work independently, under pressure, in a high-paced, deadline-demanded position for the entirety of the work day is a necessity.

We are willing to train from the ground up with the right potential employee, but salary and benefits are based 100% on prior work experience within an optical lab setting. This is a full-time position (40 hours +) with occasional Saturdays (8:30 - 12:30). Travel is not required. We will discuss full compensation package, including benefits, during the application process.
