How important do you think HEV protection is?

I always thought it was very important, particularly for those who have had surgery on the eye or retinal disease. However, Wikipedia seems to suggest that there is no connection between HEV light and retinal disease*.

5-6 years ago, Silhouette was gracious enough to invite me to their symposium. There, I heard from experts who presented data quite persuasive to linking HEVL and AMD.

You might find PubMed a more reliable source of information than Wikipedia.

From my perspective in working with people who are exposed on a daily basis to high INTENSITY light, I firmly believe that "HIL" is far more destructive to vision in the same time period than HEV. I know a lot of people who have lost their night vision, suffer from a type of "snow blindness" from continually overloading their rods and cones with bright intense visible light.

That can be harmful for the eye, because its a very sensitive part of our body,So the lightning can effect it if its high energy because it damages it internally and makes it weak. That is why sun glasses are suggested to the people especially eyes patient.

Very, very important for the bottom line.

PS: Have anyone ever been invited to a for-profit company's symposium, where they presented data showing that a product is unnecessary (exception being the competitor's products... thous are always unnecessary cr@p)?

We recently posted an HEV light related article. If interested, the white paper can be found within the site at: http://www.optiboard.com/forums/cont...ective-Eyewear

    Thanks!

That's a great article, by the way.

Does anybody know the HEV transmittance of Drivewear or Vistamesh?

i am in no way an expert on HEV, bt i do know protection from HEV makes morning commutes much less excruciating for me, and my patients that are in the same boat.

Here is a great paper on the effect of all light in the eye.

    file://qtmi-file01/Data/Quantum/Desk...MAN%20LENS.htm

HEV is important from the point of view that the amount that the average American is exposed to has increased significantly related to our exposure to more and more electronics. The energy from the HEV has to be dealt with in the eye. There is a study in the Archives of Ophthalmology directly linking HEV to the development of macular degeneration. I am putting out another blog post on this May 7 at http://www.qtmi.net

I tried Nikon's See Coat Blue and found the A/R to be annoyingly reflective inside the lens. I also don't like the color of the lens-it's discolored like a Vantage lens. Anyone have a suggestion of a treatment that will knock down HEV but is clear?
