Wink Just ordered the Santinelli 8 base tracer.

I have been waiting for a tracer that is accurate for over 8 years and it is finally on the way! Should be here in the next few days.
I will keep you posted on it. It is the 980 and I first saw this tracer over 2 years ago and it is finally available afer a few modifications.

I spoke with a lab using it to trace 100's of jobs per day and they stopped using all the other tracers; it makes that much of a difference to have the correct DBL and accurate data that the finished work is noticably better according to the guy running the MEI edgers.

    Jealous!

But don't be surprised, Craig, if you also feel that this new tracer, designed for even more wrapped frames, does not yield a correct frame PD!

Do you know something I do not? I have not put a ruler to it yet, but was told they are calibrated for an 8 base and not a plano base anymore. If it is not accurate, it will go back on principal alone!

Of this I am not sure. But what I *do* know is that the LT1000 and the ICE 1000 tracers had been (I learned they always did, but I wasn't aware) compensate for the narrowing of the effective PD created by a wraping of the frame front by simply compensating the frame'd DBL (making it narrower), which had the end result of making the blocker block WIDER than desired (for a *flat* wrap angle frame).
Example: If the DBL of a wrap frame was 16mm, and it had a wrap angle of 16-18 degrees, then the "listed" DBL was descresed by approx 2mm (1 mm for each eye).

Hope this helps. Steeper wrap frames will reveal even MORE compensation.

Not speaking for Nidek/Santinelli, but the tracers are configurable to produce either method of DBL measurement. On the LT-1000 there is a field for setting your preference, and on the 980 it's done by software control. I suggest contact with them on your preferred measurement method.

I cannot see any reason a private ECP would like to NOT have the FPD compensated. If so, my ears are open.

I got an update and was told in 3D mode, the measurements are the most accurate they have ever seen. The DBL is perfect and the difference is so apparent they are tracing every frame again to get the most accurate data possible and not utilizing all the existing database unless they have no choice. I was told emphatically the edgers produce better work with the tracers.
    Should have next week.

Its here and is amazing! The c-size on a frame varied 1.9mm from the old to new tracer. This was an 8 base zly in a 60 eye.
This actually gives you one cut sizing on every frame.
