    Remake

Do any of you charge patients for remakes if it is just a picky patient?
Picked up her glasses..."these are great!" Came back next day..."bifocals are too strong". We remade / changed +2.25 add to +1.75 add ...no charge. She picked up new glasses "these are perfect, thank you so much". Pt returns today and what do ya know..."these bifocals are too strong". Me and the Dr both have discussed her focal length with her. So I am debating on charging for this second remake. What so you think?

Definitely charge for it. I wouldn't even give a discount.

Is there anything else going on? I get that some patients are just picky, but sometimes it could be an issue other than that. Is the vision okay certain times of the day and not others? Change in meds? Beginning of a cataract? I've had a few situations recently where both the doctor and myself did everything we could with the prescription/glasses and came to the conclusion that there were other factors affecting his vision (meds, health issues, cataract, etc.). Just a thought

Tricky isn't it? Who to charge for a remake and who not to? Valid doc change within 2-3 months...we eat it, diabetic...we eat it, picky patient...no go, they have to pick up some of the cost in our store, even if we only charge them our cost to keep us from going into the negative. (Not that we would ever tell them that is what they are paying ). Listen to your gut, if this patient is one of those who just wants to keep trying things...then they probably need to pay to play, just hang on to each set of lenses...hopefully one of them works out.

A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."
