Smilie Practical State Board Exam...Judy you were right !

Well, as a follow- up from about a month ago pertaining to my taking my Board Exam: Just recieved THE letter in the mail today from the VA Dept. of Occupation and Regulation CONGRATULATING me on successfully PASSING my practical exam! Needless to say, I'm thrilled! So I passed my ABO on my first try three years ago, and now my practical portion of the exam, too, on the first try. I GUESS that's something to be proud of. I hear of so many that have to take theirs over again, sometimes as many as THREE tries before passing. I was expecting full well to recieve a letter letting me know when the next exam date would be and how to prepare, etc.,etc. I really thought I bombed! Judy, you were SO sure I did fine- and I did. Even though you said it as a kind formality to make me feel better- thanks anyway. I passed and that's all that matters! Oh- one more thing, where do I go from here? The board is reviewing my paperwork currently for my licensure. Soooo, what do I do NOW? Just how valuable IS a licensed optician?

    Thumbs up Eyecarepro

    Congratulations:cheers:

You asked about the value of a license?

The public can look to you as a professional who has proven that you have the knowledge to perform your skills according to accepted standards set up by law. Education and licensing are critical identifiers of a profession.

    I am Judy and...

I knew you would do well. I wasn't just trying to calm your post-test jitters. You demonstrated your skills and knowledge throughout your classes with all of us here at NOVA and we are thrilled for you. This is my unabashed plug for the quality and accountability of college-based Opticianry classes.

Now, come by the store so I can congratulate you in person!

PS: I second Judy's plug. With a good optical theory base your hands on learning will be enhanced tremendously.

Welcome to a fun and challenging profession!

    Blue Jumper congrats

:D Congratulations on passing, as to your question as to the worth, i think you will find that depends on what you make yourself worth. You now have to show the ability in sales and dispensing.
.....After that part of the deal is how well can you negotiate, keep notes of what you have accomplished, and how well you have done that. Note if your sales exceeds the company projections as an example.
.....Also try and meet or exceed all patients wants and needs, nothing makes a boss madder then an unhappy person walking back into the store with a complaint about your service, because they will usually do it when you have a room full of people.
.....Lastly, i would say develop your sales style, as no two people will quite sell the same way. Chains are notorius for trying to make a robot out of everyone in the place, and reality is, it does not work.
