    Transitions Vantage?

Anyone have any thoughts on the Transitions Vantage that "polarizes in the sun"? I have yet to see one and don't really know what to think about it. Thanks

It's not a "Great" polarizing lens, but it does the trick.

It's Variable Polarizing is the biggest part of it. The Darker the lens the more polarized it becomes. It does make colors sharper compared to ExtrAvtice and VI, it does get a slight tint behind the windshield like ExtrActive but not as dark.

The real big downside to it is the cost, it is MUCH more then ExtrActive

The fact that's the lens is not clear indoors is a deal breaker for most patients-they opt for Trans VI

We haven't sold very many at all. They do have a purpose but if they are going to deal with them not being clear inside they usually opt for transitions extra active around here.

How is a good polarized lenses , not depend on the price cost,
it depends on the lens material grade used, normal TAC plorized lenses cost around USD1.5-2.5/pair. CR39 palarized as high as USD8.5-10.5/pcs
also depends on the dazzling light shading effects, when you put two pieces of polarized lensed overlapping, the darker, better.

Not only is it not clear indoors (around a 10% tint), it takes a very long time to fade from its activated state. Long as in 10-15 minutes long, which is just unacceptable for everyday wear.

For a patient who needs an outdoor-use variable-tint lens, it's an intriguing product. I have sold a few to motorcyclists, mountain bikers, and runners. I have a pair on order for my own use; I'll be putting them in a Rudy Project Maya frame and using them for running, cycling, and hiking. But they are sooooooo slow to lighten that I can't recommend them for everyday use at any price.

    Hi, welcome to Optiboard!

I've dispensed a few- so far everyone has been pretty happy with the results. Most of those patients have worn transition lenses in the past and enjoy wearing photochromics so this was an extra perk to them. I have a pair on order for myself so I can give an anecdotal opinion. I've been in the optical industry for 10 years and I've never worn a photochromic! I figure this is my chance to give it a shot.

FOR photochromics lenses, usually two kinds of colors: Clear to black , Clear to Brown, how do you think?

But ExtrActive has a darker tint indoors, Vantage has less of a tint indoors, how are the opting for ExtrActive that has more of a tint if they don't like the tint of Vantage?

XTRActive lightens in 2-3 minutes. Vantage in 10-15.

Now VI will become clearer in about 2-4 minutes after it's been exposed for an hour.

I wear ExtrActive mostly, and I'm outdoors a lot, saying it clears in 2-3 minutes is false. After 1 hour of exposure it takes up to 14 minutes (Give or take 1 or 2) to get to it's fully clear/tinted state. Even with 5 minutes of exposure it takes 4 minutes to get "Clear" again.

2-3 minutes clearing maybe from walking to your car to your door, but not from full exposure.

My Vantage pair yeah takes about 10 minutes after 1 hour of exposure which is quicker than ExtrActive, but it has less of a tint at it's clearest state indoors.

Based on a side by side comparison I believe the extra active tint to be less noticable than vantage. For a pure outdoor lens the vantage is is a neat product but for everyday use I don't think its there yet. Cool tech though!

I'm anxious to try the Vantage lens. I"ve dispensed one pair, and the patient likes them. I would use them for outdoor activity only. ( hiking, climbing, etc.) Good to hear the feedback!

We've done a ton of them, and though I can't speak for the opticians, I always explain the differences, and most patients don't mind the fact that they take a little longer to change, becuase many are coming out of a flex-tint, or an old worn out transition anyways. It seems that most who are in a transition, understand that there is a good amount of time needed for the change from dark to light, and those who don't like that don't want them to begin with.

Well mine next to each other my vantage is clearer and less "yellow" the ExtrActive, but who knows, it might just be mine. It is a cool tech

I think it will take time...wait for the next version to come out and then maybe they will have a lens that gets darker and doesn't take half the day to clear up indoors. Remembering back to early transitions...ugh!!! The yellowing!!! Give it a couple of years, they will probably improve a good bit. I don't think it's a poor lens for someone who is going to be wearing them for outdoor wear though...great in Rec Specs.

A man went to an eye specialist to get his eyes tested and asked, "Doctor, will I be able to read after wearing glasses?"
"Yes, of course," said the doctor, "why not!"
"Oh! How nice it would be," said the patient with joy, "I have been illiterate for so long."

Just received mine yesterday, initial impression is they make life easier on my very sensitive eyes. The dynamics of the lens aligns itself with those that live there lives outdoors. They will be great after a couple of generations.

I have noticed that aswell with alot of my patients. I explain to them that no matter what type of "transition" lense you chose, it will never take the place or offer the benefit of a true polarized lense. Most patients like the fact that the Trans Vantage changes (somewhat) behind the wind shield but the majority of them just can not get acclimated to the "tint" when they are inside, so, after a trial they either opt for the Trans VI or a pair of sunglasses. I am starting to notice that they are pro's and con's to every type of lense style.

I was rather disappointed I could not get the 1.67 hi-index in a pal recently.

I thought it would be the perfect solution for a patient that wanted polarized, but felt the Grey C was too dark behind the windshield of a car. Once again, looking into a "sunglass" type feature, rather than general purpose.. but something other than the outdoor enthusist angle..

It's coming, it's just behind schedule. Last I heard the target date was mid-September.

Love mine. I also love new technology and think now is the "good old days". What a great toolbox, we Opticians/ECPs have to use for our patients today.

    updates on Vantage

Has there been any new opinions on this lens? Is the indoor tint very noticeable? Has there been improvement in the fade back speed? Is the indoor tint more or less noticeable than Xtractive lens?
