I know that scratches cannot be "buffed out" without affecting the shape and correction of a lens, but I am wondering if they can be filled.

Does anyone know the composition of the raw material used to make CR39 plastic? I suspect it is proprietary, but I would like to be able to mix up a few CC's of it and be able to fill scratch damage.

What do you people think? Is it a practical idea?

"Butcher's" paste wax (for furniture) works pretty well on CR-93. Thankfully for us opticians, it washes right off whenever you clean the lens with soap and water.

Okay, forgive the dumb question, but does it "all" wash off or just the excess wax. And if it is just the excess wax, does it set up clear?

Grease pen and Pledge furniture polish work okay too. Of course you would never use it on new lenses :^)

If you know of anybody who distributes GlasWick. We use to have that around years ago. It may be still made.

    Thumbs down

I am surprised we haven't been getting a flood of scratch removal questions lately. On our local cable TV stations there has been an info-mercial airing about a lens scratch removal kit. After a half dozen examples of how wonderful the kit is at removing scratches from all lens materials, they show you a screen shot of the kit. It contains a white grease pencil and a small cleaning cloth. What people wont do to make a $$$ buck.
