Need help, -18.25 RX, oh boy....

    So here's what we've got.
    OD -18.25-1.75x170
    OS -8.25-2.75x180
Patient wants the absolute thinnest lens available with transitions, yes transitions, theres no way around it... It would be alot easier if this was not the case.
I would love to do 1.74 but will most likely have to settle for 1.67. (I may be completely wrong)

Seiko Pentax, Hoya, and Shamir I have already spoke with. None of their SV products go that high, from conventional to digital, especially in transitions...

It's late and i'm sitting in the office and decided it would be a good idea to ask this board before I call dozens of labs tomorrow.

Does anybody know of a lens manufacturer that can grind a hi-index transitions lens to that rx? My coworker said that good ol' Nikon may make it.. (will call them tomorrow)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks -Phil

(P.S. contacts and all other options for this patient have been exhausted, this is the only product she will settle for, or clear if cant get trans)

Might be worth it to contact a fellow Optiboarder, Mike Walach at:

If he can't do it.....no one can!

Nikon do have 1.74 Transition available with AR. I've personally edged no less than 10 pairs already. Pretty good result i would say.

ICE-TECH out of Florida is by FAR the best choice for this RX. We just did a -24.00 and it finished with an 8.3 mm edge thickness in a 49 eye in 1.74. They use enormous blanks (they make themselves), Digital Surface machines customized with higher powered and longer reaching actuators, and their own individually calculated software. They stretch the curves that are possible to their thinnest point just short of lenticular, but they don't look lenticular. The -24.00 was not bi-concave, it was on a .25 base so it looked great.

We send them very very high powers, including a +18.00 we just did, and a +13.50/+3.50 cyl in a 46 eye that came out beautiful for a kid, bisected bifocal, backside FF round add power.

Great people, a couple are on here too, but if you need a distributor you can contact them:

    or PM me.

Most FF is not super thin because of tolerance needed to seperate the blade from the block, and they actually use a higher base curve in many brands. blade hitting block is bad @ 10,000 rpm.

    Sorry, didn't notice transitions.

Probably would try Seiko Japan 1.74 double aspheric custom FFSV.

Ice-Tech did a pair of -31.0's for us, simply amazing stuff they do. They engineered all of their machinery and lab operations software, pretty cool to have a place like that 20 mins. away.

What retail price range would you put on this originally posted rx?

My guesstimate would be in the $750 to $900 range.

    Sound right?

Another thought for non ecp's- That's lenses only and does not include the frame.

Shamir Autograph II SV 1.74 is one that I've used that high, and yeah, it' not cheap, retail is $750. Unfortunately it doesn't come in transitions though. Good luck and let me know, I've got a few that are inquiring the same thing.
