    Smilie Favorite CE Speaker

I am going to a conference on July 13th and like several speakers there. Just out of curiosity I was wondering which speakers other people enjoy.

Jim Tannehill, who made contact lens cylinder simple.
    Ralph Drew
Jerry Himes, who actually teaches simple optics and frame fitting.

Braheem, don't you appreciate hearing about all the struggles the speaker has had in life and business, How he overcame all his physical, family, and business difficulties. Remember these people are hired or sponsored
by people in sales promotion. Watcha want technical information, basic instruction?
Hell I went to a National Opticians Assn. meeting and listened to them present awards and compliments to some old foggy for his birthday. Don't you think this sort of thing is beneficial. Usually at most national meetings you can also get at least a half day of watching people hand out awards and pat each other on the back.
I mean, what could be more educational than that?

Of course speakers are sponsored or employed. Most associations simply can't afford to pay the sometimes enormous costs involved with bringing in speakers from around the country. However, attendees have a modicum of input on the content of the courses by properly utilizing the course evaluation forms that are distributed at the end of each class. It has been my experience that most attendees make for the door when the lights come on without much thought to the impact that a thoughtfully written, if short, evaluation can have.

    Chip, darlin...,

You know you have so much to offer, and I suggested a long time ago that you should write a course and present it. When you gonna do it?

Sadly I do not get to go to many CE events so I haven't heard any of the mentioned speakers but I do enjoy hearing Todd Hasselius and Mark Mattison-Shupnick.

What we don't want to hear from a speaker is 30 min. of his personal life relating "My Struggle" and only 15 min of technical education. Doesn't matter how charming or non-charming they can be, this is for the bar between courses.
Don't tell me your troubles, I got troubles of my own. Or as so elequently phrased in "Not as a Stranger." "The world doesn't want to hear about your surgery, or your sore toe. They want to tell you about thier sore toe."

Ralph Drew? I haven't seen him for 35 years! But he is, or was a gentleman and a scholar.

The bitterness of poor quality remains long after the sweetness of low price is forgotten.
