I have a account who needs some material for why the patient needs a slab-off. They aren't real experienced and I need it simple.
All I have is too far over their head.
Please email me or post it here.
Thanks,

You should be able to find something you could use from one of the links on this url

Looking straight ahead (distant portion) the difference in power does not have any effect on where you see images.. but when you converge to read the difference of power and the location of the "optical center" in the seg will not let you "fuse" into a single image. Result? you see double :) ..by grinding prism in the reading ONLY you "remove" the vertical imbalance of the two powers so you see "one image" again...Originally posted by offaxis:

That or use the old "two arm display" ..you hold both arms straight out..and explain as you look down and in to read.. the arms are not at the same point..you grind a slab to bring them back "even" when looking downward and in..seems kind of childish, but to demonstrate to someone with no optical knowledge they usually can grasp what you are trying to convey pretty easily.. :)

Get a copy of "Optical Formulas Tutorial" by Stoner and Perkins. Simple explainations and line drawings to accompany the formulas. By far, the most used reference book I have.
Thanks to all of you for the quick and informative responses. I love this board..

Hi Off Axis,
If you give me your snail-mail address, I'll mail you the handouts I use in class.
It was great meeting you at Expo West : )

Offaxis,
Am sending you an e-mail with attachment in Word format. It's a page from one of the lab/tech manuals we put out. Was written for the store dispenser and is pretty simple. Let me know if you have trouble receiving the e-mail or if you want any other stuff from the manual. Great seeing you and all the other Optiboarders at the show!

Hi off axis,
There is a handy program for figuring slab offs in the Downloads link on the Optiboard put there by J.R. Smith, even though it may not explain slab offs by using it and entering different rx's it does help in learning about slab offs.

Hi Larry,
I got the e-mail and I think that's what I need. Thanks to all for the quick reply.
I have to call this account and tell her of the news, I am sure they will appreciate it and if they don't get it, I am sure it will benefit all that read it
