    EU vs US Coating Cost

I am having hard time understanding how a well known lens manufacturer offers premium AR coating for <wholesale prices removed as per forum rules> in Europe and charges 10x more in the U.S. ? It really is cheaper for me to buy a Freeform lens with premium AR and ship it instead of getting from the same company here. This is crazy.

Same manufacturer, same lens, same material, same AR coating... That sounds apples to apples to me. Only difference is I have about 6 times the volume as my friend there plus he gets better warranty. And believe me my lens cost is one of the lowest in the country and still not as low as what they pay in EU.

Some of it may be our blessed EPA.
You do know that many higher index materials must be made outside the US because our "protection requirements" are too strenious to put up with here.

Maybe some things must be done here and carry a much higher (read expensive) safety regulations that other countries have to put up with.

And maybe we are getting gouged. Some overseas people think the Americans have all the money and should pay more.

Seems ,to me a couple years back I even had some frames with AR on the demo lenses. The frame with demo's didn't cost near as much as getting AR on the Rx lenses.

I am not talking about demo lenses. It is AR and Mirror Coating over a FreeForm Single Vision and Progressive so it is not a stock (finished) lens either.

I can't tell the name of the coating as it will disclose the manufacturer's name but can tell you it is a well known premium AR coating that has 2 year warranty.

So it's easy! If you order 20 progressives a day you can ship them from EU. Save some $$. Better off ship them from China! They will be even less and also will have one of the big guys stolen design!

...........................do not forget that the big guys all have them made and designed in China as they all have moved their production to that country.

This is funny, because here in Germany, we think that in the US everything is much cheaper. For example: In the US you get a BMW X3 about 15.000 $ cheaper than in Germany. The KitchenAid costs 250-300$ in the US. Here we have to pay 600 Euros.
